Labor Day

Many countries recognize the global labor movement on May 1; in the U.S. and Canada, the holiday is observed on the first Monday of September. Like other U.S. federal holidays, Labor Day offers retail marketers — particularly in categories such as home appliances, furniture and mattresses, as well as food and beverage — a prime opportunity to entice long-weekend shoppers with special offers and promos.

September 3-5

Inbound

This HubSpot-produced conference debuted in 2011 as ā€œa response to the growing number of marketing events that were too sales-focused,ā€ per the organizers. For 2025, the event moves to San Francisco’s Moscone Center, where presentations and workshops will play out across 11 different stages and spaces. Unsurprisingly, this year’s agenda emphasizes AI and the creator economy. Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic (the company behind the Claude large language model), and Marques Brownlee, the veteran mega-influencer and consumer electronics expert, are scheduled as featured speakers.

NFL Kickoff Game (Week 1)

American pro football’s 18-week season begins with the NFL Kickoff Game, which features the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Dallas Cowboys, a longtime rival and one of the league’s most marketable franchises. The matchup is sure to keep brands on their toes across social channels. Notably, while NBC will air (and Peacock will stream) this Thursday opener, it dovetails into a special Friday night showcase (Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers) in SĆ£o Paulo, Brazil, streaming live on YouTube, which earlier this year secured exclusive global broadcast rights to the game.

77th Primetime Emmy Awards

Traditionally, the Emmys have yielded to the Grammys and Oscars in terms of prestige and buzz. But TV is now arguably entertainment’s most dynamic medium, and so the Emmys offer a glimpse of the industry’s shifting economics and power balances. The broadcast networks, which long leveraged the halo effect from their bumper crops of Emmy-winning programs, have ceded much of the awards ground to streamers; these days, Netflix et al are racking up the lion’s share of nominations — which makes the Emmys, set to air at 8 ET on CBS, something of an infomercial for linear TV’s competition.

September 15-17
